Work on P55M asphalt overlay starts

MAASIN CITY – Work has started on a P55 million ten kilometer asphalt overlay project along the Maharlika highway between Libagon and Liloan towns en route to Mindanao, the same stretch where more than P40 million asphalt overlay was scraped after only three years of use.

Based on the estimate from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) national office, the new asphalting of the ten kilometer stretch amounted to P149 million, says Engineer Carlos Veloso, head of the Southern Leyte Engineering District (Sled), in an interview.

The highly overpriced project was, however, corrected and reduced to only P55 million on the reported timely opposition of the Sled district engineer.  Engr. Carlos Veloso

Cezka off to LA to start record songs

Edgar Lapurga and Marlynn with Cezka at Brisbane airport MAASIN CITY – Dongon village native Cezka Maris Lapurga, who was chosen to write and record songs in LA along with 15 other young Australians has left Brisbane, Australia to Los Angeles in California on Wednesday.

Edgar Lapurga, Cezka’s father, said he and his family sent her off in Brisbane to Sydney where the singer would meet her group in going to LA.

Lapurga said they will start recording their written songs on September 22 and would be staying in Best Western Raffles Inn and Suites in Anahein and in Best Western Hollywood Plaza in Hollywood area.

Maasin City posts P 8-M hike in local revenues year-on-year

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte  -- The government increased its local collections to P8 million from January to July this year, compared with the same period last year,according to Eliseo Costillas, the City Treasurer.

Interviewed over cable TV’s “Action News Center” today, Costillas said the amount represented the cumulative sum coming from various sources like business permits, fees and other charges, and the productive output of the city-initiated economic enterprises, such as the operation of the bus terminal and the slaughterhouse.

The Return of 'The Reporter'

After a while of being down for some time on the Internet, the domain, www.thereporteronline.com.ph, now bearing the new domain name of www.maasinreporter.com is back in business.  Its re-emergence allowed more offerings of news and information and making its website stand with an ‘international flair’.  Again, Maasinhons and Southern Leyteños from all over the world will be abreast of what’s going on back in their respective hometowns, partially relieving them of the pangs of homesickness and occasional longings of coming back home for a visit or two.  (Such is the life of OFWs.)
