Stud from Bontoc grabs 20th NSO QUIZ regional champion

Roa ORMOC CITY – A freshman student from Southern Leyte State University-Bontoc Campus grabbed the 20thNational Statistic Office (NSO) Quiz regional championship held at the New Ormoc City Hall on November 17. Norvim Hombre, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) freshman bested 21 other contestants in region 8. He was on the 2ndplace after 2 rounds but the leading contestant from Samar College was disqualified after the quiz officials learned that she was not a first timer freshman before the final round resumed. It was a tight race for Hombre. He was being tailed by a colleague from Southern Leyte, College of Maasin and one from Northern Samar College. It was an all boys contest in the finals. Hombre said that he was very much surprised and did not expect the win since it was the first time that their school participated in such competition. His coach, Redney M. Solomon said that they will do advance reading and more on computation practice in preparation to the national quiz championship in Manila. Director Raul F. Dones, Regional Director, NSO RO8 said that the quiz was simultaneously done in the country. He informed that region 8 had already produced a national champion, years ago. She was Jane De Veyra from University of the Philippines Tacloban. Then last year region 8 landed 1strunner-up. SC affirms TRO; Mike free to leave

(By Edu Punay (The Philippine Star) Updated November 19, 2011 12:00 AM) Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has been ordered by the Supreme Court to explain why she should not be cited in contempt for ignoring the SC restraining order on the travel ban on former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, according to SC spokesman Midas Marquez. MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) affirmed yesterday its temporary restraining order (TRO) on the travel ban on former President and now Pampanga Rep. SC: TRO stays, Arroyos can leave

(By The Philippine Star 18 Nov 2011) MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court (SC) today reiterated that former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband, Jose Miguel Arroyo, can leave the country.
